Light & dark field

Lighting Glass on a white background
When lighting glass there are several steps required to gain the proper lighting. The first step consists of setting up a seamless backdrop and draping the material over a table top surface. After situating your work space, the proper lighting is required to accent the edges of the glass. Add a 500w light to either side of the glass, directing it towards the seamless background and situate your glass upon a clear surface – with white support underneath on each side of the clear surface. A diffuser can be used on the lights to soften the shadows, and create a gradient within the shot. The same set up can be applied when lighting a dark field image, however a piece of black foam core and a black surface is required. Pointing the two 500W lights towards the subject with a slimjim will diffuse the light around the foam core which is placed behind the subject.
